In 2022, we celebrate the 160th anniversary of LUKAS, established in 1862. This limited-edition anniversary set is a tribute to Master Painters from the 19th century, their tradition and colours, and more precisely to the work of Vincent Van Gogh, who relied on some of our LUKAS oil Colours himself. The 10 tubes included in the set have been selected from the wide colour spectrum of a total of 80 shades and is based on the creative needs of the artist. 1862 Oil finest artists' oil colours are known for their unmistakable buttery consistency, incomparable colour intensity and a particular high pigment concentration. For LUKAS 1862 Oil Finest Artists’ oil colours, only selected unadulterated pigments from the tradition of old masters are used. The incomparable colour intensity with the highest lightfastness is ensured by the particularly high concentration of these high-quality artist pigments. The unmistakable, buttery consistency of our top oil colour assortment is achieved through the careful combination of the finest oils with a trace (0,5-1,5 Percent) of the finest, bleached beeswax which also makes the colour film for the restorer less brittle. A uniform drying of all shades without cracking is guaranteed by the use of high quality, specially purified linseed and sunflower oil. The typical drying time for LUKAS oil paint is 2 to 4 days across all colour shades, with a thin brushstroke of 100 to 120 μm. Sunflower oil is used in the manufacture of lighter shades to greatly reduce the traditional «yellowing» that occurs when made with linseed oil. The perfect balance of this particular oil colour is due to formulation and manufacturing: The balance between pigment and binder and the very long and traditional three roll mills production allows the colour to always have the same consistency and processing characteristics.
